Weijun Toys, a manufacturer of toy items, built its second plastic toy factory in a much less-known location in the rural area of Sichuan Province, China. Why? Let's zoom in on the lens. Interviewed by a little reporter from the local primary school, Mr. Zhong, a factory worker at Weijun Toys talked about his definition of happiness.
WEIJUN WORKER TALKED ABOUT HAPPINESS
Little Reporter: Uncle, what’s your definition of happiness?
Mr. Zhong: Happiness is... to be able to find a job in my hometown with a steady income.
Be able to stay with my children and parents, and take care of them.
That’s happiness for me!
Don’t be so shocked by such a humble definition of happiness. You may take it for granted - a steady job with a predictable income & taking care of your children - but for some from rural China this is a dream come true.
LEFT-BEHIND CHILDREN IN CHINA
Due to the fast-paced industrialization, an increasing number of rural Chinese working-age adults have flooded to the cities in hopes of finding a better living, leaving behind their children. This has become such a social problem an official name was given to these children - The Left-Behind Children. They literally are left behind with their grandparents or relatives, and see their parents for a few days a year over the holidays every year. According to data, there are approximately 70 million left-behind children in 2020.
WEIJUN PROVIDES DREAM EMPLOYMENT
With the support of the local government, Weijun Toys built our second factory of plastic toys in the rural area of Yanjiang District, Ziyang City, Sichuan, China. It has gone into operation since Oct 2021. At the time of writing, approximately 500 local villagers are hired by Weijun Toys to make toy items. That’s children of 500 families growing up in the company of their parents.
As a mid-sized manufacturer of toy items, Weijun Toys is committed and driven. On one hand, Weijun strives to provide plastic toys of excellent quality to the world. On the other, Weijun is determined to take social responsibility by taking care of our local community, starting with 500 fewer left-behind children.
